DAN BOLTON RETURNS TO LAUNCH NEW ALBUM
Jazz enthusiasts will have another opportunity to hear the music of Australian singer/songwriter/pianist Dan Bolton when the Jazz Club brings him back to the RSA this Sunday. We enjoyed his fabulous performance last year and Dan, back on tour in New Zealand, has been hard at work:
“I’ve just recorded a new album in Melbourne so this gig is part of my album release. I performed some of the songs last year at my show in Wanganui but I hadn’t recorded those songs back then. This will be a chance for people to hear the new arrangements as they’ve been recorded on the new album”.
Kiwi Mark Lockett, now returned after the best part of twenty years in New York and Melbourne, will once again be playing drums. The relationship between the two musicians began in New York City and carries on. Joining the band on saxophone is the ever versatile Oscar Laven. Oscar played brilliantly with the gypsy jazz Black Spider Stomp last year, and it will be great to hear his interpretation of Dan’s music. On upright bass will be Dan Yeabsley, another fine musician on the Wellington scene.
Bolton is candid when describing his feelings for Whanganui:
“Since moving back to Australia from New York City at the end of 2016, I’ve continued to develop my song writing and have found audiences in Australia and New Zealand very receptive to my music and the stories that go with them. It’s always special for me to return to a place where I’ve been so well received in the past and Wanganui is right at the top of the list. The show I did there last year was one of the best shows I did in 2017”.
Sunday 6 May at the RSA. Doors open at 5:30pm for meals with the music kicking off at 6:30, as usual.
Members pay only $10, and non-members $20. Memberships are available at the door.
