GUITAR SENSATIONS TO VIST WHANGANUI
The Jazz Club is thrilled to host an evening’s entertainment by two of the world’s finest jazz guitarists at the RSA on THURSDAY 31 MAY.
BRUCE FORMAN and LARRY KOONSE will be appearing at the Manawatu Jazz Festival and Rodger Fox contacted our club and offered us this golden opportunity. We in Whanganui get to hear them the day before they perform in Palmerston North and in a more intimate setting. They’ll be accompanied by two of New Zealand’s most accomplished rhythm section players – Tom Warrington on bass and Lance Phillips on drums.
Forman will be presenting words and music from his Red Guitar opus, best described as a ‘ one-man perspective into the life of a musician and an exploration of the creative process’. What an extraordinary performance that promises to be!
Sharing honours on the night, Koonse comes to the stage with remarkable achievements in his biography. These include six years touring the world with the legendary British jazz partnership of singer Cleo Laine and saxophonist John Dankworth.
The evening will end with all four musicians playing together in a roaring finale. We’re in for a tremendous tour de force, an evening you do not want to miss. This is the club’s June monthly meeting. Club members please note that it is on Thursday, and not Sunday.
Doors open at 5:30 and the music starts at 6:30. We hope to see you there.
